What Is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is largely known as a metal and composite metal coating, providing a hard wearing industrial grade coating that lasts for years.

The process involves spraying electrostatically charged particles of pigment and resin onto a grounded conductive object. The charged particles are then melted and fused together to form a tough and even coating by applying heat and energy. 

At Lansdowne Boards we are proud to be the first in South Africa to offer Powder Coating on wood based substrates in decorative and durable finishes.

  • Unlike wet spray, over-sprayed powder is collected & reused allowing for a utilisation efficiency of > 90 %
  • Highly automatable process, adding to efficiency and cost savings
 Environmental Advantages:
  • Solvent free and virtually no VOC emissions
  • Reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions
  • An incredibly Eco-friendly wood coating option

Our Powder Coating technology has been tested in accordance with the following standards:


Tested in accordance with DIN EN 15187 > Stage 6

Migration behaviour

Tested in accordance with EN 71-3:2014: within the migration limits for coatings (Cat. III)

Colour authenticity

Abrasion resistance in accordance with IKEA IOS-MAT-0066:2014 wear rating RZ

Tested in accordance with DIN and AMK directive:

– Steam impact DIN 68930 (3 cycles):

Result: No visible changes

– Resistance to alternating climates DIN 68930 (1 cycle):

Result: No visible changes

– Resistance to alternating climates Module 3 (10 cycles):

Result: No visible changes

– Resistance to moist climate Module 2 (14 days):

Result: No visible changes
