A few tips for planning your dream kitchen:

A well built kitchen should last you 15 years or longer. However, it needs to prove its worth in day-to-day use, so along with looking good it needs to be practical and functional. Good preparation when buying a kitchen will ensure you make the right choices and help your kitchen designer create the kitchen you really want.

There are a number of factors that can influence the final design for your kitchen. Before planning your kitchen consider the following:
  • Room Size/Available Space
What are the dimensions of the space for your new kitchen? Are you simply replacing the current kitchen or extending the room? Where are all the available connections? (water, power, etc.) Bring along a floor plan if possible.

  • Lifestyle
The kitchen is the heart of the home. How you use the space depends on individual preferences and lifestyle. The kitchen will be both the focal point and functional centre of your home. You may want to entertain as well as cook or use it purely as a working kitchen.

  • Layout
The “working triangle” is an established method for planning a kitchen. The cooking area, refrigeration and sink are positioned to form a triangle to create optimal work flow; this can be extended further to include a food preparation area.

All kitchens tend to have one of four basic layouts: gallery, linear, L-shaped or U-shaped and may feature an island unit. A good kitchen design will correctly allocate each working area within the chosen shape to result in a well organised and functional kitchen.
